Walk and Wonder .07

Building Bridges

Transcript:
Hey, good morning, y'all.

Will Acuff here. In the Superman movies and comic books, he had this place, the Fortress of Solitude, where he could go and be away from all the stresses of the world. What I realized over time is that the Fortress of Solitude is really a fortress of control.

Because if you want to exert as much control as possible over your universe, you have to be utterly alone. The instant you start interacting with loved ones, with people who you care about and who care about you, you're already so far out into the mystery, into the uncontrollable, that to think you still have control is only an illusion.

The only safe response, if control is what you want, if utter safety is what you want, is to build yourself a Fortress of Solitude. Because out here in the world, you interact with loved ones. You interact with chaos. You interact with unexpected shifts in your plans, hopes, and dreams. But over all of that is a God who loves you. A God of mercy. A God of humbleness. A God of compassion, who's not doing things to you but rather bringing forth something beautiful in your life.

This will, by nature, be mysterious because you won't have control over it, and you won't know how it ends. You just know His love sends a song over you throughout the whole journey. So today, I am committing to not build a Fortress of Solitude but rather a bridge of connection. I'm going to get out here in the world and mix it up, even though I can't control it.
